The monthly statistics for a total consumer proposals have been released by the Government of Canada. The numbers show a 4% decline in total consumer proposals filed in the province of Alberta. The recent economic downturn, coupled with the decline in the energy sector, has led to a number of financial constraints for consumers in the province.

April 2016 to March 2016 saw a decrease of 29 filings to a total number of 672. April 2016s number is still over 68% higher then 2015 of the same month.

Although the decrease in consumer proposals is a positive sign, total consumer proposals filed still remains very high, indicative many consumers are still struggling to control their debt loads.
